  • Food tasting at every winery, all included in the price

What's Included

  • Wine tasting — ten different wines
  • Food tasting at each of the three wineries

  • Private tour for your party only
  • Air-conditioned private car or minivan between estates
  • All winery fees

How a Private Wine Day Works

Your car, your schedule, three cellars.

  1. Collected from your hotel or the port

An English-speaking driver-guide picks up your party — and only your party — from your accommodation or the cruise terminal, at a time you agree rather than one set for you.

  2. Up through the lava-stone villages

The drive climbs past citrus and almond groves and houses built out of the volcano's own basalt, with panoramic stops on the way between estates.

  3. Three estates, ten wines, a sommelier each

Whites, rosés and reds at three family-run wineries, with a vineyard walk and a food tasting at every one. All fees are already paid.

  4. Back whenever you decide

Six and a half to seven hours is the shape of it, but the pace is yours — and the driver means nobody in the party has to skip a pour.

When a Private Etna Wine Tour Is Worth It

The per-group maths, and the two things it actually buys.

A private Etna wine tour is priced per group, and that one fact changes the whole calculation. At $325 the headline looks like a splurge next to a $67 shared half-day. Divided by four it lands at roughly $81 each — and delivers ten wines across three estates instead of four at one.

Where the break-even sits

Party sizePrivate, per headShared two-winery day
2≈ $163$336 total
3≈ $108$504 total
4≈ $81$672 total
6≈ $54$1,008 total

For two people, the shared small-group day is the better buy on wine-per-euro. From three upwards the private tour wins, and from four it is not close.

What $325 actually covers

The private three-winery day — six and a half to seven hours, and everything is in the price: the tasting at all three wineries, a food tasting at each, the English-speaking driver-guide, hotel or cruise-port pick-up and drop-off, transport between estates by air-conditioned car or minivan, and every winery fee. Only gratuities are excluded, and they are optional.

Ten wines — whites, rosés and reds — with an expert sommelier at each stop, and vineyard walks at every estate rather than just cellar-door pours. That last detail is what shared tours cut for time. Our breakdown →

The two things private really buys

Nobody drives. Ten wines across three estates on mountain roads is not a day where a designated driver works. On a private tour the driver-guide handles all of it, which is worth more than it sounds on a wine trip.

The schedule is yours. Pick-up time, pace, how long you linger at a cellar you like — all agreed with your guide rather than dictated by a departure board. The estates visited are chosen by the operator and vary by season and availability, so if a specific producer matters to you, ask before booking.

The cruise-ship case

Port pick-up and drop-off is included, which makes this a workable shore excursion from Catania. Run the seven-hour duration against your ship’s all-aboard time before you book — it is a long day, and this is the one variable the operator cannot control.

If private is more than you need

The small-group two-winery day at $168 caps at eight guests in a nine-seater and includes lunch with three DOP wines at the second cellar plus a stop in Castiglione di Sicilia. It is the best-value way to see more than one estate without hiring the car. Our breakdown → · more on the best Etna wineries page.

And if you simply want a good tasting without a driver at all, book a cellar directly from $49.

Private departures are one party at a time, so they are the first thing to go in September and October. Check availability early.

"Great. Bruno, our tour guide and driver, was fantastic. He was personable, friendly, and fun to be with. Being a local, he knew the area like the back of his hand. And he drove the crazy, narrow, windy roads with ease. I can’t imagine doing it. The 3 wineries were all great, and each different. The food at the 2nd one was amazing. Best pasta à la Norma ever! And we made friends with another couple from the USA who were on the same tour with another guide ."

"Our Mt. Etna wine excursion with Roberto was easily one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. He curated a perfect mix of three wineries, balancing larger, well-known estates with intimate, local craft producers so we could truly experience the range of Etna wines. What made the day unforgettable was the personal touch. It happened to be the day my fiancé proposed, and Roberto went above and beyond to help him find the perfect setting overlooking Mt. Etna. It was thoughtful, seamless, and genuinely magical. If you’re visiting Sicily, this is an absolute must-do. Incredible wine, stunning scenery, and a guide who turns a great tour into something truly special."
