Three family-run estates, ten wines, a sommelier at each, and a car with nobody else in it. Priced per group — which is why it stops looking extravagant at four people.

The Experience
Three estates, all fees, and a driver so nobody has to abstain.
Your car, your schedule, three cellars.
An English-speaking driver-guide picks up your party — and only your party — from your accommodation or the cruise terminal, at a time you agree rather than one set for you.
The drive climbs past citrus and almond groves and houses built out of the volcano's own basalt, with panoramic stops on the way between estates.
Whites, rosés and reds at three family-run wineries, with a vineyard walk and a food tasting at every one. All fees are already paid.
Six and a half to seven hours is the shape of it, but the pace is yours — and the driver means nobody in the party has to skip a pour.

PRIVATEPrivate Tours
The per-group maths, and the two things it actually buys.
A private Etna wine tour is priced per group, and that one fact changes the whole calculation. At $325 the headline looks like a splurge next to a $67 shared half-day. Divided by four it lands at roughly $81 each — and delivers ten wines across three estates instead of four at one.
| Party size | Private, per head | Shared two-winery day |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | ≈ $163 | $336 total |
| 3 | ≈ $108 | $504 total |
| 4 | ≈ $81 | $672 total |
| 6 | ≈ $54 | $1,008 total |
For two people, the shared small-group day is the better buy on wine-per-euro. From three upwards the private tour wins, and from four it is not close.
The private three-winery day — six and a half to seven hours, and everything is in the price: the tasting at all three wineries, a food tasting at each, the English-speaking driver-guide, hotel or cruise-port pick-up and drop-off, transport between estates by air-conditioned car or minivan, and every winery fee. Only gratuities are excluded, and they are optional.
Ten wines — whites, rosés and reds — with an expert sommelier at each stop, and vineyard walks at every estate rather than just cellar-door pours. That last detail is what shared tours cut for time. Our breakdown →
Nobody drives. Ten wines across three estates on mountain roads is not a day where a designated driver works. On a private tour the driver-guide handles all of it, which is worth more than it sounds on a wine trip.
The schedule is yours. Pick-up time, pace, how long you linger at a cellar you like — all agreed with your guide rather than dictated by a departure board. The estates visited are chosen by the operator and vary by season and availability, so if a specific producer matters to you, ask before booking.
Port pick-up and drop-off is included, which makes this a workable shore excursion from Catania. Run the seven-hour duration against your ship’s all-aboard time before you book — it is a long day, and this is the one variable the operator cannot control.
The small-group two-winery day at $168 caps at eight guests in a nine-seater and includes lunch with three DOP wines at the second cellar plus a stop in Castiglione di Sicilia. It is the best-value way to see more than one estate without hiring the car. Our breakdown → · more on the best Etna wineries page.
And if you simply want a good tasting without a driver at all, book a cellar directly from $49.
Private departures are one party at a time, so they are the first thing to go in September and October. Check availability early.

"Bruno was fantastic! He guided us through an amazing day of 3 wineries we would have never found on our own. He was an absolute joy to spend the day with learning about the area and enjoying great food and wine!"

"Thank you Bruno for an incredible tour! We had a fantastic time touring 3 very different and interesting wineries. The wine was exceptional and plentiful and we were very well fed in each place. The landscape is simply beautiful and we had such a memorable day."

"Thank you, Bruno, for the drive and the interesting discussions. We had a great time and truly enjoyed the experience. Highly recommended"
"What an amazing experience! Our guide Massimo was amazing!! Highly recommend"
"Great. Bruno, our tour guide and driver, was fantastic. He was personable, friendly, and fun to be with. Being a local, he knew the area like the back of his hand. And he drove the crazy, narrow, windy roads with ease. I can’t imagine doing it. The 3 wineries were all great, and each different. The food at the 2nd one was amazing. Best pasta à la Norma ever! And we made friends with another couple from the USA who were on the same tour with another guide ."
"Our Mt. Etna wine excursion with Roberto was easily one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. He curated a perfect mix of three wineries, balancing larger, well-known estates with intimate, local craft producers so we could truly experience the range of Etna wines. What made the day unforgettable was the personal touch. It happened to be the day my fiancé proposed, and Roberto went above and beyond to help him find the perfect setting overlooking Mt. Etna. It was thoughtful, seamless, and genuinely magical. If you’re visiting Sicily, this is an absolute must-do. Incredible wine, stunning scenery, and a guide who turns a great tour into something truly special."

"Marco was a great guide. Very knowledgeable of the area, wineries and history. His demeanor exhibited his love of the area which was truly appreciated. The wineries and their staff were pleasant and responsive. Would definitely consider booking again when we return."

"We had a really great day and the trip is totally worth it"

What private actually buys, and the group size where the maths flips.
From $325 for the group — not per person — for three family-run estates, ten wines with a sommelier at each, food at every stop and a private car with hotel or cruise-port pick-up. Premium private options run higher, up to about $1,043 for a luxury 4x4 day.
Around four. At $325 for the group, four people pay roughly $81 each — barely more than the cheapest half-day shared tour, for ten wines across three estates instead of four at one. For two people it works out near $163 each, which is more than the shared two-winery day. Above four it is simply the best value available.
Everything: the wine tasting at all three wineries, a food tasting at each, the private English-speaking driver-guide, hotel or port pick-up and drop-off, transport between estates by air-conditioned car or minivan, and all winery fees. Only gratuities are excluded, and they are optional.
Three family-run estates on the volcano's slopes, selected by the operator and varied by season and availability rather than fixed to a published list. If a specific producer matters to you, ask before booking.
Yes — port pick-up and drop-off is included. Check the six-and-a-half to seven hour duration against your ship's all-aboard time before you book, because that is a long shore excursion.
The listing describes the tasting quantities as unlimited rather than measured pours, which in practice means the sommeliers keep going while the conversation does. A food tasting is served at every one of the three wineries, which is what makes it manageable.
Both. The itinerary includes walking the vines with a sommelier at each estate — the part shared tours usually cut for time — as well as the cellar visits and tastings.
Yes. That is the other half of what you are paying for: the car and guide are yours alone, so the pick-up time and the pace are yours to agree rather than fixed by a departure board.
No. There is a driver-guide throughout, which on a ten-wine day across three estates on mountain roads is the entire point.
